The Windy City

This is the view from Brandon’s and Madina’s apartment. It’s the NBC building. Built in the 1980′s, I’m told its vertical lines, rounded edges, and tiered setbacks scream “Art Deco!”

I’m pretty sure I shot this flask-shaped building, Lake Point Tower, from every angle. We walked around it all day. It kept showing up in my photos… again…… and again… and againIt’s made numerous appearances in numerous movies, Batman (don’t know which one) and While You Were Sleeping, starring the lovely Sandra Bullock, to name two.

We rode in this.~

There were lots of bikes. Chicago is a bike-friendly town, but this guy had extra personality. If we were in high school, we might say he has school spirit. ~

And then there were the Segway Scooter tours. Is it just me, or do they remind you of that old 1950s science fiction movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, where the “Pod People” sucked the spirits out of the humans, and took over their bodies? Just sayin’. There’s been a little soul sucking going on here.

I ate the best pizza I ever had – Chicago-style pizza. We got it at Gino’s East Pizzeria. If you go to Chicago, don’t leave without trying it. ~

Do you remember the “cheeseborger, cheeseborger, cheeseborger” SNL skit? We ate the famous Billy Goat Tavern’s “Cheezborgers! Cheezborgers!
No fries, cheeps! No Pepsi, Coke!”?

I liked the name of this street, but my sexist son claims that people get confused and never know which direction to go when they’re on it.~

We took in all the great museums Chicago has to offer. Okay, we didn’t do that, but we did visit this one.~

But don’t think for a minute that we didn’t absorb some local culture. We enjoyed the arts plenty. Theater specifically.~

Is this ingenious? Or what? Enthusiastic tunes were playing, and someone was operating the puppets from inside the box. We should all make one of these right now, and rake in the tax-free bucks.  You don’t think he had to pay a bazillion dollars for a permit or anything, do you?

And I have it on good authority that the target audience was highly entertained.

We went to the beach and looked at Lake Michigan!

We visited the bean, of course. Herm beaned himself in the head with it.~

Who is that woman with Herman? Help her! She has a pink boa constrictor around her neck!

There you have it – our version of Chicago! It’s a city with something for everyone: clean streets, beautiful architecture, great food and entertainment for all ages. Loved it!
