There’s a large blog of plastic floating in the North Pacific Gyre where the currents can trap garbage for years. In fact, there are five huge patches of plastic floating in the oceans of the world. They are made up of billions of tiny pieces of plastic. Humans use 200 billion pounds of plastic every year and a significant amount of it ends up in the ocean and it never biodegrades. It will forever remain plastic – however small its pieces becomes. It breaks down into tiny particles and is consumed by aquatic organisms and enters the food chain.
